Mara lai is a basket used to store grains or other dry agricultural items. It has a cane frame with a woven bamboo body and lid. It can store 20 to 30 kg of agricultural products like rice, paddy, maize, peas, etc. It has a cubic flat base but a wider round opening. Sometimes, it is varnished inside and outside to keep insects away. Mara lai is also used to transport agricultural products. It is usually large but can be made in different sizes.
