Description

A danor hañjja is a large basket for storing dan or unhusked rice. It is made from woven bamboo and cane, with cow dung smeared on the outside as a sealant. Grain stored this way can be kept for a long time without being spoiled by pests or rot. Most rural Rohingya households will have at least one danor hañjja in their home. Its regular size is around eight feet in height and four to five feet in width and costs about 10,000 Burmese kyats (USD $7).
