Description
The art facilitator noticed that sometimes women don❜t have enough food but they still wear makeup. The reason behind putting on makeup is that it helps to ignore the pangs of hunger. While some women put makeup on special occasions such as Eid or weddings, others use makeup such as lipstick and kajol (eyeliner) to feel beautiful every day. Round circles painted on faces with saánaká (thanaka) are a common sight among Rohingya women. Shomjida likes putting on makeup to feel pretty. She uses makeup on special occasions such as Eid and wedding ceremonies. After getting married and having a child, Shomjida hardly finds any time to put on makeup. She uses make up, saánaká (thanaka), kajol (eyeliner), lipstick etc. She likes to use saánaká as it is good for her skin. Back home in Myanmar, she used to put saánaká on her face everyday.
