Description
Gura firar hol is a machine for making gura fira, small 1 to 1 ½ inch rice noodles cooked in infused milk traditionally eaten during Eid and other Rohingya feast days, or sold as a refreshing treat in village markets in the summertime. These noodles are usually made by hand, in a very labor-intensive process that takes the women of the house many days. A gurar firar hol allows the household to save on labor and time. Balls of rice flour dough are placed inside the mold, and the wooden insert pressed down to squeeze out the formed gura fira shapes. This gura firar hol was made for the RCMC by Rohingya refugee artisan Mohammed Zaber. An alternate name is bawla firar hol.
