Hatal mas is a popular variety of carp fish which is farmed in ponds but the wild fish can also be caught from the rivers of Arakan. Rohingya people like to eat hatal mas salon (carp fish curry) during the winter months, even though it is expensive. Catching this fish can be difficult, because it is strong and can tear through the fishing net.
