Description
Bormar Jindegi recounts a day in a Rohingya village in peaceful times, and is based on a sketch by 13-year-old Rohingya artist Raihan. The threaded scene comes alive with vibrant houses, right-leaning trees, a farmer working in a paddy field, grazing cattle, children playing in the field, etc. The tapestry was produced with the support of artist facilitator Shwettaj Jahan Tithi, and stitched by Rohingya embroidery artist Shamsunnahar who used quilt stitches, embroidery, and patchwork to render the idyllic Arakan village of Raihan❜s memory. It took her a little over a month. ?Even a match of four or five children playing football used to gather a big crowd in the field! Those were the happy moments of Myanmar,❜ Shamsunnahar says. Bormar Jindegi evokes nostalgia; it also resurrects bulldozed memories. This artwork belongs to a collection titled ?Influx Trilogy❜ that chronicles the lives of Rohingya refugees and their journey from their homes in Myanmar to their shelters in the Cox❜s Bazar, Bangladesh camps. The three embroidery and patchwork tapestries are: Bormar Jindegi (Myanmar Life), Hijrot (Influx), and Kutupalong XXL: Aarar Sundor Camp (Our Beautiful Camp).
