Zelaphe is a funnel cake, a traditional, sweet Rohingya snack popular especially in winter. It is available in both rural and urban areas. In rural areas, people sit together on full moon nights and eat zelaphe as a special treat. When children do not have money to buy zelaphe, they barter rice paddy for it. Zelaphe is often offered as a gift when Rohingya people visit each other’s homes.
