Description

Kela gas or boli baza is banana stem curry, often cooked with prawns and lentil. Bananas are a staple of the Rohingya kitchen. In nearly every house in Arakan, one can find a banana tree. The banana flower can be eaten fried. The banana stem can also be fried and eaten with different ingredients, or made into a salad. Many recipes use banana stems, which are believed to be good for health and improving the metabolism. An old Rohingya saying suggests that one should have banana stem curry or fried banana stems at least once a year.
