A bazar is a market, a standard feature of a town or village everywhere in Arakan. There are four types of markets: bamboo markets, wooden markets, tin markets and brick markets, depending on the type of environment and economy the bazar is located in and what is being sold.
The image above is of a model for a rural market made out of wood. Roofs of most bazars are typically made out of corrugated iron or tin. Markets are built where good road and communication networks exist, for the convenience of both suppliers and customers. In urban areas, a bazar stays open every day, however in rural areas they operate on specific ‘market days’, usually twice a week.
