Description

A borjaans, literally ‘big ship’, is a two-storied, river or ocean-going vessel.

This one is modelled on a vessel called Way Ba GI which is an Akyabor borjaans, as it runs from the city of Akyab (Sittwe). It plies on the Mayu River, between Akyab to Buthidaung in both directions, twice a week. It runs on a diesel engine and is used for transporting people and goods. Sometimes the Way Ba Gi runs from Akyab to Kyauktaw instead of Buthidaung.

There are three other Akyabor borjaans - Denyawaddy - 1, Denyawaddy - 2 and Denyawaddy - 3. It takes at least eight hours for Way Ba Gi to get from Buthidaung to Akyab and a trip costs about 2,000 Kyat per passenger.
