Description

This is a portrait of Setara Begum, a Rohingya embroidery artist for the RCMC. It was painted by Farzana Ahmed Urmi, a Bangladeshi artist-in-residence for the RCMC.

As COVID-19 hit the world, it required artistic and quality interventions to confirm mental and physical well-being of people, and Setara is an essential worker and embroidery artisan who made it possible by making masks for RCMC. Setara learnt fultola (embroidery) at 13 from UNHCR trainings in her hometown, and continues to do it for herself, and for RCMC too. Her masks include embroidery of houses, flowers, trees, etc, but her favourites are the houses as they remind her of her home in Myanmar.
