Description

The denyawaddy - 3 is a two-storey diesel-engine powered wooden motorboat, built to ply the deep rivers of Arakan. It is equipped with two engines, including a back-up in case of mechanical trouble. The bottom level is the cargo hold. The second level is for passengers, and the upper deck houses the shop and engineers’ room.

The denyawaddy - 3 carries both passengers and cargo, famously connecting Buthidaung to Akyab (Sittwe) along the Mayu river. There are five denyawaddy ships on the Akyab-Buthidaung route: Denyawaddy - 1, Denyawaddy - 2, Denyawaddy - 3, Denyawaddy - 4, and Denyawaddy - 5. These boats can have two or three levels and are typically 20 - 30 feet in length.
