Description
Tikka is a prayer cap worn by Rohingya men, similar to prayer caps worn by other Muslim communities around the world. Rohingya men wear the tikka when praying at the mosque, and madrassa students or religious scholars will often wear it as part of their regular dress. The tikka is a sign of piousness; it is part of an Islamic religious practice known at Sunnah, which meaning adopting the habits of the Prophet Mohammad as your own. There are three kinds of tikka: jaal tikka are crocheted prayer caps; horor tikka are made of cloth; and fala tikka are formal, embroidered prayer caps. A jaal tikka takes two to three days to crochet, and can be made from different yarns in a variety of designs. It typically sells for 2,000 Myanmar kyat ($1.30 USD).
