Rohingya families raise chicken for the consumption of eggs and meat. Kurar sonng is used to protect newborn chicks from predators (e.g. rats, cats, dogs, etc) and other chicken which often bite or peck them. The mother hen and her hatchlings are traditionally separated from the rest of the coop and placed inside the kurar sonng with their feed.
