weighing scale

Thool is an ingenious indigenous Rohingya weighing scale, consisting of a metal plate strung by rope on a footlong wooden stick. When goods are placed in the basket, the stick tips up 90 degrees. The stick has four notches, each indicating a different weight, and rope is moved to the desired notch when weighing out the goods: The first notch for 1 kg; the second for 500 grams; the third for 250 grams; the fourth for 125 grams. Vegetable sellers in rural Arakan used thool for measuring out chili, potato, brinjal, etc.
