slingshot basket
Gulailor hoilla is a kind of basket used by Rohingya people to carry slingshot projectiles while hunting small birds and animal. A traditional gulailor hoilla is an envelope-shaped basket made from woven split bamboo with a rope or string handle. This light, basketry-style gulailor hoilla is indigenous to the Arakan region and has been used for many centuries by both Rohingya and Mog (Rakhine) people. While it is still in wide use in urban parks of Rakhine State, cloth bags of varying sizes and colours have replaced the more traditional gulailor hoilla in more urban areas. After a successful slingshot hunt, Rohingya children will picnic together feasting on their catch!
