This is a portrait of Nurusaba, a Rohingya weaver and upcycle artisan for the RCMC. It was painted by Farzana Ahmed Urmi, a Bangladeshi artist-in-residence for the RCMC.
Nurusaba makes mats, bags and other household goods from recycled coffee packets. She learned the craft of making ris fakedor fadi (Rich coffee sachet mats) from her cousin at age thirteen, and enjoys it more than weaving mats from natural materials. In addition to fadi, Nurusaba has crafted bazoror basket (market baskets), mobilor bag (mobile bags), glosh (drinking glasses), and mog (mugs) for the RCMC collection.
