Foyez Ahammod
Storyteller
Foyez Ahammod is a practitioner of futhi-reading, an ancient storytelling tradition found in rural areas of Bengal and Arakan. As a futhi fathok (futhi-reader), Foyez Ahammod would normally start a session after Esha prayers, around 9:00 pm, and end around 2:00 am. These ancient stories serve as parables for how to live. He learned the art from older futhi-fathok in his village, where there were about ten in number. He worries that interest in futhi faath is dwindling and that the tradition may soon become a thing of the past.
