Biographical note
Rokeya is an embroidery artisan who learnt the art of fultola (traditional Rohingya stitching) at a UNHCR office in Arakan. In Arakan, she sold handmade pillow covers and scarves as well as taught her friends the craft of fultola. After coming to the camp, Rokeya joined the RCMC embroidery group where she learnt to draw houses, furniture, among other new things. Rokeya enjoyed working on “My Favourite Furniture” the most because she drew furniture that was a wedding gift from her parents which she unfortunately had to give away before fleeing Arakan.
